Breakfast – water
Lunch – pasta, half a can of tomatoes, 100g sweetcorn. 37p
Dinner – chickpea curry made with passata, an onion and frozen veg, with rice. 46p
TOTAL – 83p
Skipping breakfast today was a good idea. I didn’t feel at ALL hungry in the morning, and then a fairly disgusting lunch meant I wasn’t particularly peckish until I got home. Then I started cooking dinner, and as soon as I smelt all those lovely warm spices and saw the onion start to soften, I was ravenous. I’ve been gulping water all evening to try and stop myself from feeling even hungrier.
I added some water to half a can of tomatoes to make a pasta sauce today. Bad idea. I ended up with a watery, disgusting pasta soup. Also a bad idea – using Cajun spice to flavour this soup. Bleurgh. It shows how empty my stomach was that I finished the lot.
The hardest bits of today have been weird and small. I went for a meeting with my new manager but because I’m doing this challenge we couldn’t go out and get a coffee – £1.75 for an Americano in Pret feeds me for two days. When I was cooking, I wanted to graze on some fruit or grab a cereal bar from the fridge but of course, I couldn’t. When I was doing the washing up I thought “I can have a chocolate bar after this”, but obviously I can’t. I was heartbroken when I realised that a hot chocolate would set me back 18p and I’ve only got 17p left in my budget for today.
I’ve only got to do this for a week. I can’t imagine doing it for my whole life.
