Does what it says on the tin, really. This video will teach you how to make excellent New Year’s resolutions.
Basically, you don’t want a wishy-washy resolution like “I will eat better” because that can mean anything and doesn’t give you clear direction. Instead you want something action focused, such as “I will be a vegetarian” or “I will join a Slimming World class” that gives you a clear thing to do.
You also want to focus on the method, not the goal. Saying “I get fit” gives you a whole year to do one big thing, which will a) mean you put it off until October and then give it up as a bad idea or b) try to do it but get demotivated as you’re not achieving anything. Saying instead “I will exercise three times a week” means you have something you can tick off and achieve.
If you do have a big goal, such as “I will run a 10k”, then plan how to get there – e.g. I will do the Couch To 5k plan.
And finally, don’t have too many resolutions. You’re not going to be Superwoman overnight just because it’s 2015 not 2014.
My resolutions are:
- Work out 156 times
- Learn 12 songs on the ukelele
- Make 75 YouTube videos
- Finish the Tilly and the Buttons book
- Take a photography course
- Release my app (maybe)
- Finish the first draft of my novel (maybe)
What are yours?
