I’ve been dieting, on and off, for the past thirteen years now. I think I’m pretty knowledgeable about all aspects of dieting, from when it’s going well to when it’s going badly to when it’s not going at all to when you feel you’re getting smaller but you can’t see it on the scales to when the scales are going down but your body isn’t…I know it all. But one thing I’ve only done once in all that time is try to maintain my weight.
A few weeks ago, someone asked me for tips on how to remain relaxed when you hit your goal without sliding backwards and regaining all that weight. That’s what I’m talking about in today’s video.
My tips basically come down to this:
- Try and switch from thinking about “Dieting” to thinking about “Eating healthily”. This will allow you to eat a lot of food you’d normally eat when trying to lose weight but add a few delicious fattening extras in. You can eat healthily AND occasionally have a cake
- Stay, loosely, in control. This doesn’t mean you only eat according to a strict plan, it means that you know basically what you’re going to eat and if you deviate from that plan you choose to do so rationally. And if you do lose control and binge, stay in control afterwards and alter your plan to fit with it
- Forgive yourself for slip-ups. There is no moral weighting to the way you eat. You aren’t bad for eating until you feel sick. Don’t feel guilty – you have nothing to feel guilty about
- Check in with yourself frequently. Weigh weekly, and adjust your eating for the next week accordingly
If you have any tips then leave them in the comments, and as always let me know if there’s anything you want me to make a video on!
